SHOW YOUR RUG SOME LOVE

Here are some tips to keep your carpet looking brand new even after it has had its share of foot traffic, dust, food particles, pet hair and other alien particles spread over it.

PERIODIC CLEANING

Make a timetable for cleaning your carpets and rugs based on number of occupants, furry loves and foot traffic. We recommend you have your rugs and carpets professionally deep cleaned every 12 to 18 months.

PERIODIC VACUUMING

Shedding is common with new hand tufted woolen rug. Vacuum once or twice a week for 2 to 3 months. Regularly vacuuming your rug can help clean out and remove any loose fibres that cause shedding.

When you vacuum your carpets and rugs regularly, it’s less time consuming and keeps your carpet and you heatlhy. It sucks away allergens, dust, grime and unwanted particles. Pay careful attention to the ends and fissures. Once a week vacuuming is a good idea.

WHAT YOU SHOULDN’T DO

When caring for a beautiful hand-knotted carpet, do not vacuum the fringes. This is where our conventional technique of a broom to clean fringes comes in handy.

THE ACCIDENTAL SPILL

Carpets are never totally stain-resistant. As soon as that technology is invented, we’ll incorporate it! Until then, here’s what you do.

Use a moist, clean cloth and a mild detergent on pure Silk, Bamboo, and Viscose, since these are uncannily absorbent. Be quick!  Once done, let them dry out naturally.

BLOT SPILLS
Use a white cloth or plain white paper, not prints or colors. Keep blotting until you feel the spot is almost dry. Food spills will have to be scooped up carefully. Dried spills can be vacuumed easily.
DO NOT scrub or brush away the spill. This could damage your carpet.

TREAT THE STAIN
Use a carpet cleaning product to treat the spot or stain. Follow the product’s instructions diligently. Apply an economic amount to a white cloth and clean gently, from the edges to the center. Always blot and never scrub. Once removed, blot once again with plain water to remove the cleaning product from your carpet.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE A FURRY LOVE IN THE HOUSE

Pets often shed, leave an odor and sometimes stain. Vacuum carpet more often to capture pet hair and dandruff. If there’s a mess, clean up immediately and follow the steps above. You can even use hand extractors to be more precise.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

FURNITURE MARKS: The legs of heavy furniture can often flatten your rug pile. We recommend that you use rug protectors under the legs. You can also rotate your rugs and carpets every few months to avoid wear and tear.

REMOVING CREASES: Temporary creasing may occur due at the time of shipping. Simply reverse roll your rug and keep it this way until the creases relax.

AVOID DIRECT SUNLIGHT: This causes the colors to fade over time.

HUMIDITY: Long term exposure to humid weather can be harmful to rugs. The cotton warp and weft foundation of the rug can breakdown when exposed to excessive humidity. Avoid placing plants directly on top of rugs and immediately blot dry any water spillage.

SHEDDING: Wool rugs may shed. To reduce this, vacuum your rug 1-2 times per week in the direction of the pile. Shedding should decrease within a few weeks.
